Welcome to 1a blog celebrating Jean Paul Gaultier’s now-obsolete Junior Gaultier line. Although I have set this website up, anyone who is a Junior Gaultier fan is welcome to submit revisions to the posts or even better, submit their own photos and memories of wearing Gaultier in the 80s and 90s.
I have collected several items of Jean Paul Gaultier fashion, although my favourite line is Junior Gaultier and coming in a close second, the Gaultier Jean’s line. The thing that I love most about buying vintage designer clothing is that if you choose wisely and look after an item, you’ve made an investment.
Researching Junior Gaultier clothing collections
I’ve been busy cataloguing some of the Junior Gaultier items I own as an aide-mémoire and a resource for other collectors. As I research a clothing item’s history, I soon disappear down a rabbit hole of intricate facts, such as medieval decorative techniques or the concept of Deconstruction. Seemingly superfluous details can come in useful, like an item’s fabric composition when labels are missing, as dry cleaners need them to refresh our treasured items.
I am also extremely interested in the provenance of some of the clothes I buy second-hand. For example, the suede winkle pickers that belonged to an extra in a movie or a seller’s photo of a leather perfecto being worn in the 80s.
Please note I’m not an academic, a fashionado or an expert on Jean Paul Gaultier, I just love the clothes (and of course, the man himself). So, if you spot any inaccuracies or have additional information, please let me know.
Please note that this is a personal project paying homage to my favourite Jean Paul Gaultier label and is in no way affiliated with the fashion house. All photographs (unless credited) are taken by me, but all copyrights and trademarks remain the property of Jean Paul Gaultier.
