Who I Am

My name is Miles. I’m a designer with a deep appreciation for the 1980s and the distinctive style that defined the era.

How Long I’ve Collected Gaultier

I have been actively collecting Junior Gaultier, mainline Jean Paul Gaultier, and Gaultier Jeans since 2018.

Why I Created the Archive

I created this archive because I realised there was no comprehensive online archive of Junior Gaultier collections. I wanted a way to catalogue my own collection while also providing a resource for fellow collectors to identify which season their garments came from.

How I Research Collections

There are a number of methods I use to research pieces of Gaultier clothing. I usually start with a Google image search to see whether an item has appeared on a resale site. This often gives me an initial lead on the season, which I then verify through catwalk videos, vintage magazines from the same period, and articles from publications such as Vogue and Elle.

Over time, I have learned to identify collections through smaller details. For example, it is often possible to match a jacket or coat to a specific collection by the pattern used in its lining. One of the most collaborative and enjoyable ways to research garments, however, is through conversations with fellow collectors on Instagram, who are often willing to share their knowledge and discoveries.

Are the Images From My Collection?

Most of the clothing featured on this website comes from my personal collection. Any images of clothing, jewellery, or footwear that are not from my collection are credited to the collector who kindly granted permission for their use.

What Makes This Archive Unique?

What makes this archive unique is that I own and wear many of the garments I write about. Rather than simply documenting the collections from a distance, I can experience them as clothing meant to be worn.

The archive also features the collections and experiences of other Gaultier collectors, many of whom continue to wear these pieces in their everyday lives. Their contributions help to show how Jean Paul Gaultier’s designs continue to be appreciated and worn decades after they were first created.
